Abstract
Nonverbal communication confirms, contradicts or acts as a powerful substitute for verbal communication in almost all interpersonal transactions. In his book, "Manwatching??A Field Guide to Human Behaviour," highly illustrated with field observations, Desmond Morris shows how people signal their attitudes, desires and innermost feelings more powerfully through unconscious bodily movements than by word of mouth. Among the gestures and postures, which vary from individual to individual or from culture to culture, there is a pattern. Recognizing this pattern as well as the diverse manifestations of nonverbal behaviour will hopefully lead to a reduction in conflicts and tensions.
