Abstract

Individual psychology, a school of thought founded by Alfred Adler, assumes the uniqueness of the individual and the personality as composite and organised as part of the whole system which includes family, community and humanity. The behaviour of human beings is dominated by the innate desire to strive to overcome inferiority complex and achieve social connectedness. It explains the role of goals, social interest, birth order and family structure in developing a fully functional personality.
